Kennet Valley
Countryside Project

The Kennet Valley Countryside Project aims to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the Kennet Valley and to help people appreciate the countryside. It covers an area of 350 square kilometres along the length of the River Kennet from Hungerford to the heart of Reading. The valley encompases nationally important habitats including wet meadows and woodlands, heathlands and chalk downlands, all supporting a wide variety of wildlife and plant species.

The Kennet Valley Countryside Project works with local people to protect, enhance and maintain a healthy, vibrant countryside where both nature and people can find a living. To this end the activities covered include offering wildlife and landscape management advice to landowners, preparation of agri-environmental schemes, volunteer conservation work and guided walks, talks and training events.

The Friends of the Pang and Kennet Valleys has been set up to represent all the people who care about the countryside of the two valleys and want to get involved in practical tasks or to meet like-minded people.
