In 1999 Maidenhead and District Friends of the Earth (MADFOE) set up two initiatives in Maidenhead, the Walking School Bus to Courthouse School and, in response to a public meeting in May, the Farmers' Market, where we continue to run the tea stall.
We have also hosted lively public debates on Transport and Housing and other topics of local and national interest. In March 2005 we held a joint meeting with CPRE on the controversial issue of Night Flights and Heathrow expansion with leading speakers from BAA and HACAN campaign group. We are consulted by the Royal Borough on a number of local policies, including the Local Transport Plan, Housing and Waste Strategy. We also run social events including our popular Quiz Night at New Year.
We aim to support some of the national FOE campaigns and this year (2005) we are supporting the FOE Campaign on Climate Change and will be attending events during the summer to raise awareness and support for the Climate Change Bill.
We are a small but active group and new members are always welcome. Our regular monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at Friends House, Maidenhead. Contact Membership Secretary, Cynthia Payman Tel: 01628 773775 or Group Co-ordinator, Ruth Kinns on 01628 782651.
