Sheepdrove Organic Farm

Sheepdrove organic farm covers 1850 acres of chalk grassland and arable farmland on the Berkshire downs near Lambourn. It is a traditional mixed farm with sheep, beef, poultry and mixed cereals, a member of the Soil Association's Organic Farms Network. The farm has recreated a vast area of chalk downland on former arable land which now holds a wide range of grass and wildflower species whilst its resident birds of prey include barn owl, tawny owl, little owl and kestrel. Other wildlife at home on the farm are skylark, lapwing, curlew, brown hare and badger.

Sheepdrove Farm runs an interesting composting project which recycles local waste. 25 tonnes of manure a day created by nearby racehorses on Lambourn Down, large amounts of coffee grounds from a local chocolate factory and left-over green waste from Sainsbury's is turned into top quality compost for use in organic production.

Groups and parties visiting the farm are welcome but must be by prior arrangement. Contact Charles Maclean, Farm Manager on 01488 71659 or by e-mail or visit www.sheepdrove.com
