Transition Towns

The Transition Towns Network mission is:

to inspire
to encourage
to network
to support and
to train

communities as they as they consider, adopt, adapt and implement the transition model in order to establish a Transition Initiative in their locality. The transition model emboldens communities to consider the linked challenges of peak oil and climate change and for people to find local answers to those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive. Typically, self-determined solutions will involve some relocalisation.

Transition MAIDENHEAD

We are a group of people from the Maidenhead area who are working together, imagining and creating a future that addresses the twin challenges of diminishing oil and gas supplies and climate change, and creates the kind of community that we would all want to be part of.

We believe that only by involving all of us - residents, businesses, public bodies, community organisations and schools - will we come up with the most innovative, effective and practical ideas, and have the energy and skills to carry them out.  Our future has the potential to be more rewarding, abundant and enjoyable than today, and by working together we can unleash the collective enthusiasm and genius of our community (that means you!) to make this transition.

Transition Town READING

We’re facing the key challenge of our time: How do we create resilient, sustainable and vibrant local communities, freed from their oil dependency, helping all of us live a richer, more satisfying way of life in the process?

You and me, all of us, by working together can make that vision a reality, and the time has come to start the journey, one step at a time, big steps and baby steps, we’re going to get there.

Since our first event we’ve already had two local ‘Transition Neighbourhoods’ in East Reading, and South Reading form. Not only that but ideas and firm plans for practical projects are germinating all the time. Watch this space for more info soon.
