Newbury Britain in Bloom
Action Group

The Action Group is an independent, voluntary organisation made up of local people with an interest in improving Newbury for its residents and visitors. Since our inception in March 2000 we have worked on a number of projects and have many more in the pipeline.

Some recent projects include:

  • working in partnership with West Berkshire Council, The Kennet Valley Countryside Project and the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust to clear sections of the Canal and River Lambourn of 85 shopping trolleys and large amounts of litter over one weekend in March;
  • designing, creating and planting a new flower bed with the 1st Newbury Sea Scout Beavers, and donating bulbs to local primary schools.

We are keen to raise local awareness of our group, to work with other voluntary groups and obtain sponsorship to enable us to create additional floral displays around the town. To this end we entered the Newbury Carnival in July 2000 and won our category. Our group is very enthusiatic and motivated, the only things holding us back are lack of funds and red-tape! As we become better known we hope our reputation for enhancing the beauty of the town with the help of the community will help overcome these drawbacks.
