Hedge and Woodland Conservationists

HAWCs is a small group of local enthusiasts who meet regularly in the winter to coppice woodland and lay hedges primarily in the Bracknell and Wokingham area.

HAWCs aims are:

  • To keep the ancient crafts of hedgelaying and coppicing alive.
  • To conserve and maintain hedgerows, woodlands, and rights of way in the area for the benefit of the public at large and for the wildlife which depends on them.
  • To educate the public, and in particular the young people, in the principles and practice of nature conservation.

HAWCS is an autonomous, self-funding group affiliated to the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and to the British Hedgelaying Society.
