Maidenergy Co-operative Investment OpportunityMaidEnergy
Co-op Ltd is an Industrial and Provident Society, regulated by the FSA.
PVS AND FITS - The Feed In Tariffs are a new, simple government incentive to
encourage the installation of renewable energy. A south-facing roof such as the
school hall at Ellington can generate 4,250 units of solar electricity per year,
by installing PVs. Each unit of electricity will earn over 35p for 25 years,
linked to increase with inflation. In addition, the school will receive this
electricity for free. When the school is closed the solar electricity can be
exported and earn 3p per unit.
Maidenergy Co-op Ltd will propose a simple robust agreement with the school
whereby the school receives a portion of free electricity, and the Co-op
receives the FIT payment in the region of £1,480 every year. The Co-op has a
legal structure which allows people to join and invest, and receive a dividend
on their investment, and this is how it will raise the capital. We aim to raise
the full £20,000 locally to pay for the installation of PVs.
MaidEnergy Co-op Ltd was established by Verona Rusted and Emily Tomalin in
March 2010, to further local sustainable energy projects. Emily and Verona met through the local
Transition Towns network. Verona has worked for over ten years on pioneering
environmental education in local schools, and Emily is a renewable energy
engineer advising schools and local authorities while working for TVEnergy Ltd.
