Let's Celebrate!

Conservation Foundation

The Conservation Foundation was formed by David Shreeve and David Bellamy and since 1982 has been working to Inspire, Enable and Celebrate positive environmental action.

Common Ground

“Local distinctiveness” is the central theme of Common Ground initiatives. It has been the inspiration and driving force for community projects such as Apple Days, Parish Maps, Community Orchards and Community Woodlands and the idea of celebrating local places and traditions.  Visit commonground.org.uk/what-we-do/

The Farnhams Orchard Day celebrated its ten years anniversary in September 2021 and would like to make it an annual event.

Green Apple Awards

The Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice are run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-profitmaking, non-political and non-activist environment group with the main aim of recognising, rewarding and promoting the positive side of environmental endeavour.
West Berkshire Council won the Green Apple Award in 2000 for heathland restoration at Greenham Common.

Food festivals are now commonplace and are a good way to celebrate local food, meet and support your local growers, farmers, cider makers, cheesemakers, winemakers, brewers and artisan bakers! There’s something for everyone!

British Food Fortnight runs in October nationally to encourage pubs, restaurants and shops to take part in promoting British grown and produced food. Look out for and support participating outlets.

Walking and Experiencing

More than just rambling! If you’re interested in observing your surroundings and not just covering the miles, there are groups offering inspiration too! See what’s around you that you might otherwise miss on a routine ramble! Some ideas to explore:
